Let us introduce ourselves
The history of the Sleep Ranch began in 1883 when Henry Sleep came to the Black Hills of South Dakota from England as a gold miner. He worked in the Homestake Mine in Lead-Deadwood and homesteaded west of Spearfish. Henry and his family also grew produce that they sold to the miners. The original homestead house is still occupied by family members.
Through the years, the ranch has grown and diversified, supporting several generations of our family. The breed of cattle has changed through the years, from Herefords, to Saler cross, to Angus, and now to Simmental-Angus cross. These changes have come as we have been devoted to developing cattle that can perform on many levels, including challenging range conditions, feedlot performance, and ultimately provide a high quality product on the consumers' plate.

We are located in the northern foothills of the Black Hills. We can take advantage of the abundant summer forage and desirable grazing conditions in the high country, as well as the milder winter weather in the foothills.

Currently, the seventh generation is being raised on the same land that Henry Sleep settled in 1883. We thoroughly enjoy and take great pride in working together as a family. Our area is often referred to as Gods country, and it truly is! We are thankful to be stewards of some of the cattle He owns on a thousand hills. By Gods grace, we have been able to endure tough years and enjoy years of blessing as well. We are overwhelmed with his constant provision and hope to continue the western ranching heritage for generations to come.
